Renowned fashion editor, co-editor of i-D Magazine and prime-time BBC TV fashion presenter throughout the eighties and nineties.
Having worked on the BBC’s Clothes Show which ran for 12 years and Style Challenge for 3 years, during a career spanning 42 years, Caryn has worked with international design talent as well as everyday users of fashion. She’s also reported on refugees in battle zones, workers in free-trade-zone slums and campaigned against unachievable body ideals and predatory fashion photographers. Co-chairing the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign in 1996 – 2021 for 25 years with designer friend Amanda Wakeley, Caryn is proud to be part of an industry that has raised millions to build Britain’s first dedicated Breast Cancer Research Centre.
In 2009 she co-founded All Walks Beyond the Catwalk which campaigned for 6 years, consulting with the fashion industry as well as Jo Swinson and Lynne Featherstone, both Gov Minsters of Equality; eventually helping to trigger mass challenge to narrow and limited portrayals of women in fashion imagery.
Now an industry commentator and visiting professor with an MSc in applied psychology, Caryn’s most recent TV appearances include Kingdom of Dreams and Evil or Genius featuring Coco Chanel. Her latest and 6th publication is SKEWED a pop-cultural audio book with Goldsmiths Social Psychologist, Professor Keon West tackling identity bias through current race, gender, sexuality, age and appearance beliefs.
