Charlie Le Mindu
Charlie Le Mindu is a French-born visionary hairstylist and headpiece designer who pioneered what he terms “haute coiffure.”
From his early days cutting hair in Bordeaux salons at age 13, he quickly gravitated toward Berlin’s vibrant nightlife in his late teens. By his early 20s, Le Mindu had moved to London, launching his bold wig collections at London Fashion Week in 2009. His career took off as he crafted sculptural, often surreal headpieces and hair sculptures for a string of high-profile artists and brands, including Chanel, Mugler, Vivienne Westwood, and L’Oréal.
Le Mindu’s work lives at the intersection of fashion, performance, and fine art — his hair creations are frequently featured in editorials and exhibitions around the world. He’s designed hair‑costumes for ballet and contemporary dance (such as for Staatsballett Berlin and Les Ballets de Monte‑Carlo), exhibited dramatic hair‑body sculptures at institutions like Palais de Tokyo, Centre Pompidou, and the V&A, and held fine‑art auctions at Artcurial in Paris following his selection as a Louis Vuitton “exceptional talent” for its bicentennial celebration. Renowned for a rebellious creative ethos rooted in punk and drag culture, he treats human hair as a sculptural medium — each strand meticulously sewn into netted caps to build architectural forms that defy the boundary between beauty and art.
